Elisabeth Malaquais, who edited the Mailer–Malaquais Correspondance (1998), recalls in Reflections: Norman Mailer at 100 (p. 70) her marriage to Jean Malaquais at New York City Hall on 22 March 1963. Mailer and Beverly Bentley were Jean’s witnesses, and as Jean said yes, she saw a tear roll down Mailer’s cheek.
