Allen Ahearn’s contribution to Reflections: Norman Mailer at 100 (p. 2), the first in the book, recalls how he and his wife Pat came to Mailer as collectors of first editions, beginning in 1968 with the City Lights White Negro. They met him once, in January 2002, after “Zelda, Scott and Ernest” at the Folger Shakespeare Theatre in Washington, with Mailer as Hemingway and George Plimpton as Fitzgerald. There they talked about Georges Simenon.
