Letter to Andre Deutsch (16 April 1964)
Norman Mailer's Letters on An American Dream, 1963–1969, ed. J. Michael Lennon (Sligo Press, 2004); transcription via the An American Dream Expanded digital edition (Project Mailer).
Dear Andre,
Up to my armpits in the serial—installment seven 1 is getting done. Only one more to go. The trouble is it will have to be about twenty thousand words long. So this is just to say that the agreement we made with Leonard Russell is all right with me. Hope to have a full book to show you soon.

-
Mailer had almost caught up by the seventh installment, which was turned in only a few days late. ↩
