Norman Mailer: Works and Days A digital bio-bibliography

Bibliography 1951

A thin bibliographic year dominated by the publication and reception of Barbary Shore (51.1, 24 May). Four other entries record peripheral publications: the Harvey Breit NYT interview (51.2), Mailer’s first appearance in Esquire (51.3a, letter on Ezra Pound), a Humanist symposium contribution (51.3), and a Cold War essay in the Wingate anthology The Western Defences (51.4) that will be substantially revised into his first Dissent piece three years later. A biographical entry in Warfel’s reference volume (51.5) rounds out the year.
